What it SQF
In 2000, the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an international trade association, set forth a series of standards to ensure food safety for both farmers and manufacturers.
The Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI) a division of the Food Industry Association (FMI) offers the SQF certification that is accredited by the GFSI as one of the programs that meets their regulatory requirements for the entire food chain, “from Farm to Fork”.
Below are some examples of how the SQF Program can help mitigate the risk of a food safety and quality crisis from happening.
Step 1: The Farm
Growing, raising, capturing or farming of products, including livestock, produce and seafood farming.
Step 2: Manufacturer
Producing or manufacturing a human food product, animal food and feed, supplements, and processing aids.
Step 3: Packaging
Making, storing and transporting food packaging materials. As well as items used in food manufacturing or food service sites.
Step 4: Storage
Receiving, storage, display, consolidation and distribution or perishable fresh produce and general food lines.
Step 5: Retail
Are your store employees following the processes and procedures set up to ensure the consumer is getting safe and quality items?
Step 6: The Fork
In our “prosumer” world, consumers utilize their stake in the market to advocate for safer, better quality products and to dictate how those products are made.
The SQI Certification process is a rigorous process, including evaluation of the suppliers, production and storage facilities, the quality of the product, and works also with feedback from customers and buyer agents. The program focuses on quality and safety as well as on risk assessment and what processes each organization has in place to be proactive for the rapidly changing safety needs as a means of ongoing prevention.

SQF Certification offers us the assurance that we are taking steps above and beyond the basics to ensure our suppliers, our workers, and our customers are getting products that have high safety and quality controls. This serves as another validation that the products you get from Argires truly are “Outrageously Good” in every sense of the word!

This certification offers additional reassurance of our commitment to you and your customers. The SQFI mission clearly aligns with our own mission and vision.
The SQF Program is the only GFSI Program to integrate a quality component in addition to food safety. The Safe Quality Food Institute Mission: To deliver consistent, globally recognized food safety and quality certification programs based on sound scientific principles, consistently applied across all industry sectors, and valued by all stakeholders.
Our certification process began in 2017 with an inspection and the initial steps that are part of the rigorous certification. We received our initial certification in 2019. Our commitment to this is ongoing, and we continue to be a part of the ongoing certification process, through continuous inspection updates and our dedication to meeting the ever-increasing standards.
The SQFI is beginning the next certification process this in May 2021. The next process includes updates to ensure companies continue to increase their commitment to “a culture of food safety and operational excellence in food safety management”.
